cozycli.com thoughts

2025/09/29 — note, sideproject

I have been working on cozycli.com now for a few weeks and I really enjoy building the application and learning about linux commands. Its interesting to see how it all got developed from the beginning.

At the start of developing cozycli I just wanted it to be a little toy, kind of like monkeytype where you can just train your linux command skills kind of like a vocabulary, to see how many you could memorize. Now I kinda shifted the focus on more of an educational website. As I am currently learning a lot about Linux myself and through that you automatically have to get in touch with the terminal and learn commands. But there isn't really a nice way to learn all these commands in a fun, practical and nicely structured way. You kind of have to buy a server to use linux on or install it on one of your PCs if you have a spare one and dont want to switch completely to linux.

So now I am kinda building that fun, practical and structured way to learn all these commands and also in general learn about linux. So currently you can still only do the "vocabularies", you have a set of tasks and you have to find the right command. Eventually I would love to add some kind of "learning path" for example for beginners. There you would learn the basics of linux, posix, unix and how everything came to be and why the commands are all the same and haven't changed in 40 years. So it would start with a more theoretical part, then we would go into practice mode and you would have to learn to use the right commands in the right situation and at the end you might get a badge or a little certificate.

This is kinda the vision currently and I think it could be really valuable for beginners. If you are interested, feel free to try the current version of cozycli out here: https://cozycli.com/
